Demonstration of Microsoft Project

The other disadvantage of a PERT chart is that they a difficult to use for weekly project tracking without computer software support. Even with MS Project software support it can be difficult to analyze a PERT chart. It was difficult for MS Project to identify our critical path. For example, in our golf tournament project I had our weekly committee meetings inserted as a reoccurring task. This task was our bi-weekly 2 hour meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from the start of the project till a few weeks after the competition of the golf tournament. MS project identified the reoccurring meeting task as the critical task. This did not make any since to me. Once I deleted this reoccurring meeting task MS project identified a different critical path that was more logical to me. The critical path was identified as budget approval (GT1.1.2), tournament planning (GT1.7), tournament day events (GT1.8) and tournament evaluation (GT1.9), as the critical tasks. This was more logical on how we had scheduled the project. All of the other tasks were predecessors to Glenn getting our budget approved. The next important tasks were planning the event along with a smooth organized event and obtaining feedback from the employees on what they thought of the event.
